- 109 pages: 80 numbered recipes, four written indexes, twelve meal weeks and six shopping lists
- Ingredients in the order you use them, not grouped by kind - so the left column is a running order you can cook from, not a list you re-sort while the pan is hot
- A scale column beside every quantity for the doubled version, so it is written down once instead of done in your head at the counter
- Printed with the caution that is actually true: quantities double, and time, salt and anything that raises do not
- A made-it-on ledger at the foot of every recipe - date, who for, what I changed. It is the only part of a recipe that is yours
- Meal weeks point at recipes by number, and the number is what you tap
- Shopping lists grouped the way a shop is laid out, with the group names left blank because your shop is not ours
- No oven temperature, no timing and no serving size is printed - fan or gas, calibrated or not, and the numbering differs by country
What is inside
Filed by recipe, numbered, with an index you write.
80 recipe pages, four written indexes, twelve meal weeks that point at recipes by number, and six shopping lists grouped the way a shop is. 109 pages, all linked.
WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
· Ingredients go in the order you use them, not grouped by kind. That turns the left column into a running order you can cook from, instead of a shopping list you have to re-sort while the pan is hot
· A scale column beside every quantity, for the doubled version — because doubling is the commonest edit anyone makes and it gets done in your head at the counter
· Printed with the caution that is actually true: quantities double. Time, salt and anything that raises do not, so those get written rather than multiplied
· A made-it-on ledger across the foot of every recipe: date, who for, what I changed. A recipe you have cooked four times is a different document from one you have cooked once, and the difference is all in that column. It is the only part of a recipe that is yours
· Meal weeks point at recipes by number, and the number is what you tap
· Shopping lists are grouped the way a shop is laid out, with the group names left blank — because a shop's layout is local, and a list in recipe order walks you round it three times
· No oven temperature and no timing is printed. Fan or gas, calibrated or not, and the numbering differs by country — the field is here and the number is your oven's
· No serving size either. Write who it actually fed; "serves four" has never been true of the same four people twice
· No nutrition fields at all. Every one of them is a health claim, and this is a book about dinner
· No branding inside. You are buying paper, not an advert.
