THE STORY BANK
The failure of interview preparation is not having no stories. It is re-inventing them for every panel and telling a worse version each time, because you are assembling it live and under pressure.
· Each story is written once, on its own numbered page
· A row along the bottom records what it can be used to answer - a conflict, a failure, leading, persuading, under pressure, a decision, starting something
· A told-at line records which interview you have already used it in, so you neither repeat yourself to one panel nor spend your strongest story on a question that did not need it
Situation, Task, Action, Result is the STAR method, developed by Development Dimensions International. The four words are printed and DDI is credited on the reference page. None of their wording or materials is reproduced, and the method is theirs rather than ours.
