THE FINISHES SHEET
The single most-lost piece of household information is what colour a wall is. Not approximately - the brand, the name, the code, the finish, where it was bought and when it went on. Everybody means to write it down, nobody has a place to, and the tin goes out with the recycling.
· Every surface in a room gets its own row: walls, ceiling, woodwork, floor, and three spare, because a real room has a chimney breast or a windowsill that is different
· It asks for the CODE as well as the name. Names get discontinued, renamed and reissued at a slightly different mix; the code is what a mixing desk still understands in five years
· And the finish, because the same colour in matt and in eggshell is two different walls

Not annually for a boiler, not every five years for anything, not one frequency anywhere in this file.
How often depends on the appliance, the fuel it burns, whether you own or rent, what your insurer requires and what country you are in. This is the one place where a printed number that disagrees with your own documentation would be a safety question rather than an inconvenience.
The services register has last done and next due, and you fill next due from your own paperwork. Nothing in this file is safety advice, and nothing in it tells you to check anything. It records what was done, and when.
NO NUMBERS ASKED FOR
No serial number and no policy number. A household file that syncs between devices and gets shared with whoever else lives there is not where those belong. Every register has a where-the-paperwork-is column instead, which is the part that actually helps.
